America’s maritime defense company.

Decades of progressive technologies that work.

Sparton is an innovative defense contractor headquartered in DeLeon Springs, Florida, with a rich heritage dating back to 1900. Renowned for our exceptional manufacturing capabilities, we specialize in producing high-quality sonobuoys critical to the United States’ undersea warfare arsenal, enhancing national security against current and future adversaries. But we are more than manufacturers; we are problem solvers. Our team of dedicated engineers and skilled professionals tackles some of the most challenging issues in defense technology. Our expertise includes advanced research systems, maritime solutions, sophisticated sensor technologies and payload delivery capabilities.

Over 100 years of excellence.

1900

Sparton was founded as The Sparks-Withington Company in Jackson, Michigan, as a small manufacturer of steel parts for agricultural implements.

Early 20th Century

Sparton adapted to the automobile revolution, embracing new and innovative technologies.

1951

The company secured its first sonobuoy contract, marking the beginning of its leadership in maritime technologies and warfare systems.

1956

The Sparks-Withington Company name was combined and changed to Sparton Corporation.

1984

Sparton entered into a Joint Venture (JV) with Magnavox (now Ultra) to form ERAPSCO (Expendable Reliable Acoustic Path Sonobuoy Company), focusing on the design, development, and manufacturing of U.S. Navy sonobuoys and transducers.

2010

ERAPSCO expanded to include sales of all sonobuoy variants to the U.S. Navy and entered into successive five-year, sole-source Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracts.

2018

Sparton was purchased by Cerberus.

2021

Sparton was acquired by Elbit Systems of America.

Today

Sparton is the global leader in designing, developing, testing, and producing complex electronic systems, including sonobuoys for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and maritime deployed products supporting Undersea Warfare (USW).

Dedicated engineers and skilled manufacturing professionals.

Sonobuoys

Sparton produces more than 250,000 units annually, each weighing 30 pounds and integrating both mechanical and electronic components.

Unparalleled volume

The scale and complexity of Sparton’s sonobuoys are unmatched in the Navy portfolio. Comparable production volumes are usually limited to ammunition, not advanced systems.

Rapid development

Our team is able to adapt quickly. Through years of understanding the technologies, we are able to transform their use-case.

Multi-sensor technology

Sparton sensors use AdaptNav™ and MEMS technology to deliver precise navigation, even in harsh, GPS-denied environments.

Engineering complexity

Sparton engineers and manufacturing teams work closely together to integrate new materials and production methods to maintain a leading-edge advantage.

Production Pros

Our high production volumes result in significantly lower costs compared to similar military technologies like torpedoes and vehicles, while maintaining the highest production standards in the industry.

Steps ahead

Our arsenal of talented engineers, seasoned mechanics, and motivated developers allows for us to always be on the precipice of the newest technologies and defense systems, preparing us, and America, for any challenge that comes our way.

Shared talent

Our close-knit community allows for open dialogue throughout the facilities, ensuring all potential concerns, problems, or ideas for our technologies are promptly addressed.
