Sparton was founded as The Sparks-Withington Company in Jackson, Michigan, as a small manufacturer of steel parts for agricultural implements.
Sparton adapted to the automobile revolution, embracing new and innovative technologies.
The company secured its first sonobuoy contract, marking the beginning of its leadership in maritime technologies and warfare systems.
The Sparks-Withington Company name was combined and changed to Sparton Corporation.
Sparton entered into a Joint Venture (JV) with Magnavox (now Ultra) to form ERAPSCO (Expendable Reliable Acoustic Path Sonobuoy Company), focusing on the design, development, and manufacturing of U.S. Navy sonobuoys and transducers.
ERAPSCO expanded to include sales of all sonobuoy variants to the U.S. Navy and entered into successive five-year, sole-source Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracts.
Sparton was purchased by Cerberus.
Sparton was acquired by Elbit Systems of America.
