Sparton Corporation To Relocate Jackson, Mich., Corporate Headquarters to Schaumburg, Ill

JACKSON, Mich. – June 18, 2009 – Sparton Corporation (NYSE: SPA) today announced the relocation of its Jackson, Mich., headquarters to an executive office in Schaumburg, Ill., effective October 1, 2009. The relocation is in response to streamlining the corporation’s overhead costs and aligning corporate operations closer to strategic market design centers as part of Sparton’s plan to return the Company to profitability.

“While this decision was extremely difficult, it is critical for us to take the steps necessary to ensure the strategic growth of the Company,” said Cary Wood, president and CEO, Sparton Corp. “We’ve been faced with high infrastructure costs for some time now and we need to optimize our resources to a much more competitive level.”

The Jackson facility has served as both the Company’s headquarters and a manufacturing plant for its Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) business. As announced in March 2009, products currently manufactured in Jackson are being transferred to the Company’s facilities in Brooksville, Fla., and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The Jackson manufacturing facility closure will be completed on or around June 30, 2009, as previously announced, and the closure of the offices will be completed by October 1, at which time corporate functions and senior staff will relocate to the new Schaumburg, Ill., office. Customer orders will not be affected by the transition.

The Jackson, Mich., office closing affects 15 salaried employees who will receive relocation or severance packages consistent with Company policy. Sparton will work with various State and local agencies to provide displaced employees with job search assistance, basic skills training and counseling.
